Workshop - Developing an AI Literacy Strategy for your Library

Workshop Description:

In this workshop, current and aspiring library leaders will learn practical procedures and tools for setting their own priorities in reskilling library staff and determining which areas of AI knowledge are most critical for developing an action plan. Participants will leave with concrete next steps for creating a staff upskilling strategy tailored to their context.

This workshop has been developed based on the findings of a systematic review of AI literacy frameworks from around the world. You will work with a group of UTS researchers and practitioners to explore the similarities and differences between major frameworks and use the latest research on effective strategies for developing public and institutional AI literacy.

Heather Ford

Heather Ford is a Professor in the School of Communications and an ARC Future Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She researches how digital platforms shape what counts as knowledge and truth and works with libraries, teachers, lecturers and civil society organisations to improve digital and AI literacies for all.

Alycia Bailey

Alycia Bailey has been almost every kind of librarian in almost all the major kinds of libraries and is currently a liaison librarian at the University of Technology Sydney. She has spent most of her career co-ordinating information and research literacy programs, managing strategic projects and co-designing library services. She believes in the role of libraries as advocates in the community for equity, democracy and knowledge.

Dr Keith Heggart

Dr Keith Heggart is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Design and Society at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Director of the Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society (CREDS). His passion lies in civics, citizenship, and digital learning, and his work spans research, teaching, and leadership in these fields. Keith completed his PhD at UTS in 2018 and has since coordinated and developed a range of programs, including the Master of Teaching (Secondary) and several Graduate Certificates in Learning Design and Education.

Dr Simon Knight

Dr Simon Knight is an Associate Professor in the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Transdisciplinary School, and Australian Research Council, Discovery Eary Career Award (DECRA) Fellow. He is a previous co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Learning Analytics, and inaugural, immediate past Director, of the UTS Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society (UTS:CREDS). Dr Knight researches how people learn to navigate uncertainty, disagreement, and evidence, and the mediating role of technology in that. His work has developed design approaches for learning analytics, exploring the use of data as a form of evidence, and design for learning towards epistemic and ethical reasoning.
