Digital, Media and Information Literacy: Enriching programs by embedding AI
Presenter:
Karen Seeneevassen
Date:
Tuesday 12 May | 2:30pm – 3:00pm
Presentation Description:
The session will provide a brief overview of the K-12 Digital, Media and Information Literacy Scope and Sequence to contextualise the program. The aim of this program is to encourage the creative, positive, responsible and ethical use of Generative AI. Practical applications of how Generative AI is embedded in the program will be provided through examples of units of work that have successfully engaged students in the use of Generative AI. Units of work for Stage 3, 4 and 5 students will be presented. The complexity of the units increases through the scope and sequence, covering academic integrity, the comparison of digital tools for research, understanding the effects of bias, echo chambers, algorithms and the impact of misinformation and disinformation on an audience. The focus of the program is to present Generative AI through a positive lens, allowing students to digitally flourish in a non-threatening, experimental space.
